TATA Submarine Infrastructure Portal
Submarine Infrastructure portal
We successfully developed a Submarine Infrastructure portal for TATA communications integrating various components that provide a view of cables, segments, capacity, performance, network and service impact assessment, and restoration to maintain their business continuity.

About the client
Tata Communications Limited, part of the TATA group, is an Indian telecommunications company. The company, which has invested $1.19 billion in its global subsea fiber network and spanning over more than 500,000 kilometers of subsea fiber, provides network services and software-defined network platforms, content delivery networks, the internet, Multiprotocol Label Switching, and private lines.

The Project
TATA has multiple submarine cables connecting cities across countries. The cable systems connecting various sources are divided into multiple segments. The main requirement of the project was to develop a portal to represent these submarine cable paths spanning over different areas. We were asked to develop a single and layered view of cable systems, terrestrial path, capacity deployed, capacity used, capacity available, capacity reserved in real-time, and present over Google Map and Tableau. Along with the representations and drill-down views, the user should also be able to export reports, as well as, view data on reporting and graphical formats. The pre-requisite skills of the project included experience in installation, configuration, and integration, JavaScript, n Google Map APIs, Python data Visualization, and presentation. Since we had beforehand knowledge in the fields, it was interesting for our team to work on this project.
How did we did it
We developed a performance dashboard that provides information about the terrestrial path and cable segments. For user convenience, we framed the data into various modules that address each user requirement. The modules are; Map module representing the submarine cable paths and point coordinates,
Routing module filtering the available territorial pops during search, Analysis module for cable analysis with visual representations, event management module for planning events and cable reservation, and Admin module to insert route in the search and manage master data.

We developed a user interface to create e-mail generated internal
notifications about network events. Analytics to provide information
about the fast-moving capacity deployment, activation, and used were
built. Reporting tools were incorporated that provided a historical
view with an option of seeing consumption patterns based on the
cable system, customer-based, revenue-based.
The web application was later made responsive and turned into a
mobile application using Cordova.
Challenges We faced
To ensure work entitlement, Organizations usually collect visa information of their workforce and perform a manual check. It is the HR department of the companies which supervises the checking process done by VEVO. VEVO is a VISA system that stores the visa information of a person holding Australian visas. The tedious task of VEVO checking each employee’s visa work rights in Australia is very time-consuming for the HR department. In the case of illegal workers, the company gets heavily fined. The client approached us in need of a solution that can minimize the workload of the HR department. This mundane visa checking task was to be automated by Check Work Rights with a system. The biggest challenge we faced was to build a system that can reciprocate the results without any errors as the system deals with such confidential and sensitive data.
